"Time For A Change"
The Issue
In 2002, Corey Hodges was charged with first degree murder. Only 18th at the time yet and still, he had no prior convictions of violence or signs that displayed any inimical behavior in his background.
These charges didn't define him, or fit his true character. Corey has always respected and valued human life. Years later evidence proved that he didn't committ the actually act of violence. But in the state of Illinois there is something known as the accountability theroy. Which means, that you can be charged and sentenced up to 60years in prison for the actions of someone else. If you have knowledge of the offense occurring you aide or assist individual without notify or coopetating with authority. Of course, the system has never been about justice only convictions. Corey was still sentence to 23years in prison, under the truth-in-sentencing law. Hindering him from having any opportunity to work, go to school or earn any good time/ good behavior credits that could possibly grant him early release. He has been incarcerated in secluded from society, community, and his beloved family for 16 and half long years.
This petition gives Corey hope... Despite the rollercoaster ride that this ordeal has taken him on. He clearly demonstrates " only the strong survives ". He made all the necessary strides to involved, self-develop, self-improved to the extent that ends of justice will be achieved by the release back into the society.
Society has misjudged him, the justice system has failed him, but this petition shows you that he is still worthy. This is his last chance, insearch for some type of relief in justice. Signing this petition would hold heartedly give him a chance of freedom grant him opportunity to be useful in society and put him back in the lives of family.
