Prioritize the Resolution of Berryville's Water Crisis

Prioritize the Resolution of Berryville's Water Crisis
The Issue
Hello, my name is Bradly and I am part of the concerned community in Berryville facing a water crisis that is affecting all of us. Our community stands at risk with water tainted with HAA5 contaminants, known carcinogens, which are a byproduct of treating water that contains an excess of organic waste. Our town has been out of compliance for about two years now and the time for action is here.
Our safe water supply has been compromised as elevated levels of these harmful HAA5 contaminants persist in our municipal water. The Shenandoah River, which provides water to our treatment plant requires urgent attention and cleanup to preserve its sanctity and our health.
Deputy Town Manager, Jean Petti, and I had communicated about a potential solution to this issue. She said the town "endorses (my) hypothesis" on the cause, however budgetary issues and a small staff are barriers to setting up a Local Advisory Committee that could provide recommendations that would lead to a long-term solution. With the ever-rising cost of water in Berryville, it's beyond time to make a meaningful investment in our water quality.
The time has come to reach out for a robust solution. To facilitate this, I am petitioning the Town of Berryville to establish a Local Advisory Committee, who's end goal will be to set up a Source Water Protection Program. This board will be responsible for gathering public input, grant and funding information, and fostering a community effort to tackle this challenge. The Committee would work closely with farmers, homeowners, businesses, and concerned citizens to make sure a sustainable solution is found and make recommendations to the Town of Berryville Council and Mayor Arnold.
The board could either be funded through our town, pending appropriation of necessary funds, or through block grants. Alternatively, we could establish a group of dedicated volunteers with experience or expertise in these focus areas to lead the conservation program.
Lets come together to secure the health of our community and the future of Berryville's water supply. We urge our local leaders to invest in this critical issue. Let's pave the way for a healthier Berryville.
Please, sign this petition to contribute to solving Berryville's water crisis.
