Every day, as I drive through this area, I witness a rising tide of chaos. At the intersections of the I-15 off ramps/South 5th and South 5th/Maverick exit, drivers are risking everything, shooting for whatever tiny gap in traffic that comes along all at the expense of safety. The impatience is palpable, the risk imminent. 

With an increase in semi-trucks and general congestion, the danger escalates. Making turns has become a hazardous task, and severe accidents are going to result if something is not done immediately. There is a failure of the current traffic signs, leading to reckless U-turns and unsafe median crossings. Additionally, the issue of gridlock at the I-15 south off-ramp and rising traffic at the I-15 north off-ramp needs to be tackled immediately.

But this is more than about just decongesting roads - it's about preventing a catastrophe I know is coming if we do not act now. Therefore, I urge the Idaho Department of Transportation District 5 and District Engineer Todd Hubbard to intervene and enforce traffic regulations at these intersections. We need traffic lights installed at these problematic intersections, speed limits decreased, prohibitions on U-turns, and effective median barriers. We should not wait for a fatal crash to understand the gravity of this critical issue.

The state must ensure the safety of all  residents and visitors. Act now before regret replaces opportunities for preventive actions. Let us not allow the expenditure of a few minutes saved become the cost of lives irrecoverably lost. Sign the petition because safety is a right not a privilege.
