Recent arrests by ICE have spotlighted a serious threat to communities in Blaine County, Idaho.

• Jordy Lerma-Quintero, 27, of Mexico — Grand theft, marijuana possession, public intoxication
• Jhon Tenorio-Orihuela, 25, of Peru — Felony domestic violence
• Brayan Chanco-Vilcapoma, 24, of Peru — DUI and other prior criminal activity
• Edu Mayorca-Curi, 31, of Peru — DUI

These arrests underscore the pressing need for immediate action and policy change regarding "safe communities" policies (also known as "sanctuary cities") that are currently in place in Bellevue, Hailey, and Ketchum.

Our community's safety should be the foremost priority of our leaders. It's imperative that the Bellevue, Hailey, and Ketchum city councils rescind all "sanctuary city" or "safe communities" resolutions that are currently in force. These resolutions undermine cooperation between local law enforcement and federal agencies that is vital for ensuring safety and equal application of the law.

Furthermore, the directive to the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office must be unambiguous: full cooperation with ICE is necessary to protect residents and uphold the law. The safety of Blaine County cannot remain vulnerable due to political stances that do not align with the public's interests.

Enough is enough. We demand leaders who prioritize public safety and act to remove any barriers that shield individuals who pose a risk to our community. We urge our fellow residents and local government officials to support the initiative to repeal these sanctuary policies.
