Why this petition matters

On December 3, 2021 from OPRF HS Superintendent Greg Johnson, under the direction of the District 200 Board of Education -  “The health department has directed us to immediately cancel all clubs, athletics, and extra-curricular activities including practices and competitions effective Saturday, December 4 through winter break.”

Is Superintendent Greg Johnson’s decision to cancel all OPRF HS clubs, athletics, and extra-curricular activities consistent with his claim to be “protecting the health and safety of our entire community”?

Neither Johnson, nor Village of Oak Park Health Director Theresa Chapple-McGruder, have provided any evidence supporting the assertion that cancelling extracurriculars will make the OPRF community materially safer.

Just as important, neither has provided any evidence to OPRF students, parents or community members this decision protecting physical health is not outweighed by risks to student mental health.

In signing this Petition, I believe the OPRF Board of Education and Administration should:

1.       immediately stay the decision for cancellation of extracurriculars

2.       immediately hold a public hearing to disclose all relevant information leading to this decision, including all information provided by the Oak Park Department of Public Health.

This petition will be provided to OPRF HS Administrators and the District 200 Board of Education.
