The Issue

We are asking Vineyard City, the affected property owners, including Keith Holdaway and Jake Holdaway, the developer, and all parties involved to work together in good faith to reach a reasonable resolution that provides the safest route for our children.

Specifically, we are asking that the original plan approved in the development agreement be the first priority. We believe this provides the safest and most direct route for children walking and biking to Vineyard Elementary.

If the affected property owners are unwilling to reach an agreement that allows the original plan to move forward, then we are asking the City to move forward with the next safest available solution that does not require the use of Keith Holdaway's property.

Our priority is not to prolong a property dispute. Our priority is to establish a safe, permanent route for our children as quickly as reasonably possible.

“I hope you were able to see from yesterday’s city council meeting that we are doing our best to get to a safe solution for 400 South. As you can also see from reviewing that discussion there are several different interpretations of what is safest. There are also limitations due to the city not owning all the land that would be required to implement the safer solutions. Condemning land under eminent domain takes years in court and lots of money and creates enemies. (Imagine the city requiring you to give up your entire front or back yard. You wouldn’t like it either. ) So we continue to negotiate with the various parties to reach a solution all parties can agree to. This process may seem long, but it is much faster than any other alternative. Thank you for your patience as we work through getting to a final solution. Best, David T. Lauret, Ph.D. Member, City Council”
