I have been a conservative my entire adult life. Since November 2021, I have built a YouTube channel dedicated to the values that I thought defined our movement: individual liberty, limited government, and the protection of private contracts. I live in a town that is 75% conservative. My neighbors know me, they respect me, and they accept me. Recently, I took the step of outing myself as a lesbian because I believed that my movement was a "big tent" that valued my contributions and my freedom.
I am 32 years old. I fall squarely into the 60% of Republicans under 50 who support marriage equality. We aren't "liberals in disguise"—we are conservatives who believe that the government has no business breaking the legal bonds of committed couples.
When major leaders like Blair White and Dave Rubin remain silent while this campaign gains steam, they are allowing a vocal minority to redefine what it means to be a conservative.
