The After-School Klub (‘TASK’) has been providing after-school care at Stanmore Public School since 2013. TASK provides a wide range of after-school activities, including homework supervision, games and activities to approximately 160 Stanmore Public School students.

TASK has strong links to the school community, and was started by Stanmore Public School parents in response to a need for after-school care which other providers, including Inner West Council, were unable to meet. TASK has been assessed as meeting all 7 quality areas of the National Quality Standard (NQS) assessed by ACECQA in June 2017.

TASK’s arrangement with the school was terminated last year, after the school learned that TASK could no longer operate under a community use agreement. A temporary arrangement was put in place for term 1 2018 which allowed TASK to remain in the school providing after-school care. However, unless a more permanent arrangement is made, TASK will be out of the school at the end of term 1, and 124 families will have to find other after-school care services in an area with a shortage of places and no guaranteed options.

The Department of Education has indicated that it is willing to extend TASK’s community use agreement while a tender for after-school care providers is arranged. It is very important that the agreement is extended, so that TASK families have continuity of care, and disruption to TASK children is minimised. We ask the Department of Education and Stanmore Public School to reach a formal agreement that extends TASK’s community use agreement and allows TASK to remain on site at the school until a tender can be conducted to determine which provider/s will provide after-school care at Stanmore Public School.
