Save Princeton Sprint Football

Save Princeton Sprint Football

The Issue

We believe that college sports teams enrich campus communities by building school spirit, pride, loyalty, and enthusiasm shared among students, faculty, alumni and nearby residents.

We believe that college sports teams enhance the educational experience of student-athletes by teaching invaluable lessons and building lifelong friendships outside the classroom.

We believe that college teams deserve support from their institutions sufficient to compete safely and with reasonable opportunities for success.

We believe that the student-athletes of Princeton’s Sprint Football team have demonstrated remarkable courage, determination, and grit during the team’s recent struggles.

We believe that Princeton University has the means to restore support to the Sprint Football team so that it can again compete safely and effectively in the Collegiate Sprint Football League, which includes Penn and Cornell.

We believe that Princeton’s decision to terminate Sprint Football instead of offering a small part of its vast resources to support the program is inconsistent with the Athletic Department’s “Education Through Athletics” motto. That decision will deny current and future student-athletes the opportunity to benefit from varsity athletics, including those who were influenced to choose Princeton by that opportunity.

Because of these beliefs, we ask Princeton University to reconsider its decision to end the 82-year-old campus tradition of Sprint Football.
