Dual Enrollment Amendment to Prince William County Public Schools

Dual Enrollment Amendment to Prince William County Public Schools
The Issue
I am a resident of Prince William County and am a supporter of the Dual Enrollment Program. The current Dual Enrollment Agreement between Prince William County Schools (PWCS) and Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) is a significant benefit to the students served by the county. The current program, however, contains a few inadequacies that impede the desired outcome for many. We request the current inadequacies in the program be corrected by amending the current agreement to allow students to take any NVCC Online course required for an Associate’s Degree or a General Education Certificate as part of the Dual Enrollment Program. Currently, students are effectively limited to taking classes which are offered at their high school. The courses and degree opportunities can be found at the link below.
Current Dual Enrollment Course Offerings
In addition, we request the Prince William County School Board, the Prince William Board of County Supervisors and NVCC continue pursuant to the current contract to provide high school students the opportunity for dual enrollment at little or no direct cost to them or their families. Without these modifications, students will not have the opportunity to take full advantage of the program including a full range of courses. With these modifications, the program will dramatically expand the number of participating students and further our educational goals.
As a resident of Prince William County, I join the Future Kings’ organization in this modification request to ensure the Dual Enrollment Program provides complete and fair access to the entire PWCS student body. I am asking that the school board amend the existing agreement to include all on-line courses offered by NVCC and that the school board negotiate with the County Supervisors to make any associated and necessary changes to the current method of funding the Dual Enrollment Program.
