At the intersection of Dominion Valley Drive and Route 15, students walk to and from Battlefield High School every day. A zone full of students, this intersection should be a safe place. However, it is not, and making it safer should be our top priority, and it’s urgent.

On October 19, 2021, at approximately 12:30pm, a 13 year old boy, who attended Ronald Reagan Middle School, was struck by a car. This young boy was rushed to the hospital and sadly passed away. In January of this same year, another 13 year old passed away in the same intersection. We shouldn’t have to lose anyone else when the intersection can be made safer. Ideas for change include a pedestrian bridge, a traffic light delay, traffic directors during the school day, more pedestrian signs, flashing lights, and more. We call upon city officials to help any change toward a safer crossing, especially for students. 

We must have a pedestrian bridge built, but that can’t happen overnight or without help. As we convince officials to make one and wait for one to be built, we need an immediate, temporary solution such as longer traffic lights and police/traffic directors during the school day.

Even one injury, let alone fatality, is too many. Let’s prevent any more. Please sign and share this petition and cause, and help get officials to make a change to save lives in the future. Thank you for your help.
