Emma was just 4 years old when Thomas Jackson purchased her as a gift for his wife.   I cannot imagine what her parents felt when this child was purchased as a gift.

Stonewall Jackson would later have a total of six slaves.   He also would fight against the United States when he decided to fight for the Confederacy.  Why in 1962 did citizens w name an institution of learning after him?  It definitely was not to include all Americans.   Years later we are still being hampered by this decision.  Changing the name would be a step to unify the community!

While the teachers are excellent, the students are Brilliant, Innovating, Empathetic, Talented, and Amazing our school has lagged in funding we are now behind the other schools.   Some of the teachers use decades old equipment.   Then,  every single day our amazing students have to pass under the name of this racist General who purchased kids.   

Please change the name of the school.

 Please fund it properly so students can finally get new equipment and uniforms instead of utilizing six-year old clothing.  That's gross!    We have plenty of corporations with locations around the school that can help fund this badly needed initiative faster!   Please support this petition to change the name to

(1) General Benjamin O. Davis High School  A Service & Innovation School

or

(2) Innovation High School 

Please consider fully funding this so we can work to make the school even more excellent!!
