A livable future for humanity and all life on Earth depends on i) deeply reducing then ending human-caused CO2 emissions, ii) reducing resource consumption to levels our planetary systems can sustain (about a 90% reduction for Canadians), iii) ending wildlife habitat loss, and engaging in restoration.

Prince Edward County's proposed Official Plan, slated for adoption Feb. 10, 2021, will i) increase human-caused emissions from the County economy, ii) increase County levels of resource consumption even further beyond today's unsustainable levels, iii) increase wildlife habitat loss in the County.

This is not acceptable.

It is known with scientific certainty that failing to address our systems-wide overshoot crisis will result in catastrophic global warming, ecosystems collapse, food shortages, civil unrest and geopolitical conflicts, the collapse of major agricultural regions, major in-migrations, energy shortages, international resource conflicts, catastrophic sea level rise, and the list goes on.

The implementation of the proposed Official Plan will make the County community contributors to the rapid emergence of the worst-case scenario for our own children and grandchildren, and all life on Earth, including ourselves.
