In just a few weeks, more than 500,000 water buffalo, pigs, goats, chickens, pigeons and even mice will be killed in a massive slaughter by people with no training in humane slaughter. Because all of the animals must be slaughtered in the first two days of the festival, the participant butchers spend 48 hours torturing and massacring the thousands of terrified creatures. Mothers will be slaughtered in front of their babies, then their offspring were also be killed. 

Often given no access for food, water or shelter for days prior to being killed, many die before the main event even begins. The survivors will be tortured, beaten and then decapitated, or have their throats cut with all manner of weapons and without stunning, causing a slow, agonizing, and painful death.
