Noise Pollution and religious procession misconduct.

The Issue

Ganesh Chaturdi, Devi Navaratri, Azaan, church, political rally.,

The problem:

Noise pollution or noise disturbance is the disturbing or excessive noise that may harm the activity or balance of human or animal life. Noise-wise India can be termed as the most polluted country in the world. The source of most outdoor noise worldwide is mainly caused by machines and transportation systems, motor vehicles, aircraft, and trains. In India the outdoor noise is also caused by loud music during festival seasons.

The law is clear on noise pollution. The Supreme Court order clearly states that there cannot be loudspeakers used in a silence zone. The question then is, why is no action taken against temples & mosques & Churches using loudspeakers? And it is not just about a religious ceremonies. I am against noise pollution of any type. So even if there is a bhajan or kirtan being sung that is causing noise pollution, if there is a political rally being taken place that is causing noise pollution, action needs to be taken against the perpetrators.

1. Using of loud speakers in religious ceremonies and rallys is increasing day by day to unbearable volume and madness. Many of us living in metro cities are constantly exposed to noise pollution courtesy of random marriage functions, jagratas, mata ki chowkis and more.

2. Using of western music, hard beat songs which is not related to god, and which does not imply any worship of god, any praise of god, any prayer of god.

3. Youth getting spoiled with these ceremonies, there is clear lacking of fear of god, worship of god, discipline, organization, They dance for movie songs and consume of alcohol, gudumba, gutka, and other drugs behind the name of god.

4. Too many people have started putting up tents in every corner of the street, where they will be blasting heavy music till midnight. Surprisingly, the police don’t even interfere in this activity. These same cops take issue with any young person listening to loud music beyond 10 pm on other occasions.

5. Function Halls built in residential areas creating sound pollution by which event students around that area cannot concentrate on their studies.

6. Traffic jams for hours because of these religious processions were being carried out on busy roads.

7. Our children brains are constantly exposed to these loud speakers, which we never had in our childhood, it definitely have adverse effects on our kids metal health.

Solution:

1. Make an amendment in Law, that any religious organization or followers, should use India's natural music, made using tabla, pakhavaj, mrudhangham, harmonium, shehnai etc,. Western music bands should be prohibited in and around temples, and religious events. and loudness should be at enough levels where members of such groups can catch it. It need not be reaching entire street and indoors of around.

2. Prohibition of songs and music not related to god and prayer.  No religious rally, no political rally, no marriage function, should make noise near a school building, hospital and tuition centers and residential areas. That means, there is no place in India to carry out such things.

3. Limit on number of religious groups who can come on street for any festival. Allow only those groups who agrees to noise pollution checklist. Disciplinary committees for youth to control the bad habits and bad behaviors and provides woman safety.

4. Prohibition on number of tents per area and limits on loudness levels. No religious organisation should be allowed on street, without having control on traffic jam, and controlling the crowd.

5. Events happening at Functions/Convention halls should not let their voice come outside.

6. Should not allow these ceremonies on road at peak traffic timings, or put sign boards for diversion of traffic.

7. Prohibition of children under age < 15 to participate in such loud events.

I am from Andhra Pradesh, pointed known issues, but there might be similar problems with other religions as well. hence it applies to all.
