All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi operates autonomously under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and is governed by the AIIMS Act, 1956. It is a public hospital and medical research university based in New Delhi, India. The Institute had opened the VIP counter exclusively to facilitate treatment for "VIPs" and the patients recommended by the Union health minister's office which, in 2017, after the several criticisms, has closed down.

During the second wave of Coronavirus, where the whole country is suffered by the surge of the COVID-19 cases, there is acute shortage of the beds, oxygen cylinders etc in various Govt as well as the private Hospitals, as result several hundreds of the patients are every day due to lack of the medical attention, shortage of the Oxygen, non-providence of the beds to the serious ill patients

Nevertheless, the VIP culture at the big Hospitals like AIIMS is still going on. News reports showed that Doctors/health workers who worked/or working at the prestigious Institute failed to get themselves or their family members admitted in the same Hospital, While Politicians/VIPs easily secured to get admission. It has also reported that Beds in AIIMS are vacant but shown occupied by people in private ward having just fever. They, not only, get prioritized to access to these services but blocking the beds of those who in need

Hence, this VIP culture in the Public funded hospitals needs to be stopped, especially at the time of this COVID-19 pandemic and priority must be given to the critical patients who needed it urgently
