Declare "Rajgriha" - Residence Of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar (Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar) at Hindu Colony, Dadar (East), Mumbai as the National Monument.

The Issue

Respected Sir,

Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar (Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar) was the tallest among all leaders of India who shaped the destiny of Country by drafting Unique Constitution for Emerging INDIA as powerful largest democracy in the world. The nation rightly honored him by bestowing the highest civilian award “THE BHARAT RATNA" in 1991.

The great patriot Dr B.R.Ambedkar designed and constructed a house for his books in the entire three story building named "Rajgriha" at Hindu Colony, Dadar (East), Mumbai in the year 1934. He spent maximum of his lifetime from 1934 to 1956 (22 yrs) at Rajgriha and spearheaded and conducted most of his social, cultural, educational and political movements from "Rajgriha". He spent most of his time with his wife Ramabai and children's at "Rajgriha". He held several meetings with India's great leaders, social reformers and activists at this place. He spent maximum time reading and writing books and thinking and strategizing about liberation of then total  70 million untouchables (scheduled caste ) (now 200 million) from the shackles of Hinduism and leading them to Buddhism finally at Deekshàbhumi,Nagpur. After his Mahaparinirvan on 6th December 1956 at Delhi, his body was kept for the antyadarshan (last homage ) at "Rajgriha". Thus  "Rajgriha"  is the most sacred place for all Ambedkarite, underprivileged, Indians, as well as people around the world who hold Dr Ambedkar at high esteem as a true leader and greatest human being after Buddha.

Then the Hon. Chief Minister of Maharashtra State Late  Mr. Sudhakarrao Naik in the year 1990-91 rightly  made good  efforts in the direction to declare "Rajgriha" as the  national monument. At the same time the then Prime Minister Late Mr Narsimha Rao as the chairperson of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar birth centenary celebration committee made some efforts and  tried to declare "Rajgriha" as the national monument but couldn't succeed. It is heartening that Maharashtra Govt. recently decided to acquire  the  building in London where Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar stayed during studies for economics and law  from 1920 to 1922 (3 yrs). It is unfortunate that the place where Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar lived and spent maximum of his lifetime is still not declared as national monument.

In order to cherish the memories of this great son of mother India and to inspire generations of Indians and the whole world, it is essential that Maharashtra government acquire this property from the concerned family members of Dr Ambedkar and declare it as the national monument in this 125th year of his birth anniversary.

Kindly do the needful and oblige.

Yours truly,

All the citizens all over the world.
