Peter Collins died 2 years ago a few years ago on 13th August 2015. He was in a Canadian prison. In the early hours of August 11th he called the guards for help and they left him for over 4 hours before they transferred him to the palliative unit where he may have found some temporary relief from the agony. He tried to get out of bed the evening of August 12th and the nurse found him later crumpled on the floor. Numerous phone calls were made by Peter’s family to Correctional Services Canada to try and organize a visit in his final hours. When his family awoke on the 14th of August they found out that Peter had died in the middle of the night. Correctional Services Canada hadn’t even bothered to call his family when he died. Canada and most other western countries are signatory to rules about decent and compassionate health care of prisoners with respect to their dignity and human rights. Canada and many other western countries do not adhere to their signatory commitments. Please sign this petition and pass it on to others for Improved Health Care in Canadian Prisons in honour of Peter.
