Help Students Avoid Devastating And Unethical Charges During The Covid Crisis
The Issue
It’s bad enough being loaded with debt at any age. It’s even worse starting off life drowning in it. Especially when the debts come from charges to young people that are levied by UCHF, an organisation that is targeting international students on their year abroad at university. An organisation that already in 2017 was successfully pursued for illegally overcharging international students. Foreigners are low-hanging fruit.
During Covid-19, landlords and universities globally are cancelling and reducing accommodation charges and governments are stepping in to help. But Copenhagen University’s Housing Foundation, UCHF, is continuing to burden young people with their full rental bills —hammering international students who have understandably left their university digs to return home to their families or friends during this alarming pandemic.
The UCHF has a terrible track record. 689 students are currently fighting for justice having been forced to continue paying rent until their contract ends, despite the extenuating circumstances of today's world. Prior even to the current crisis, one student with an acute mental illness moved out of the UCHF’s housing to more affordable accommodation…. but only after the UCHF had promised that there would be ‘no problem’ in the UCHF renting her room easily to another student. When the room remained vacant for months, the UCHF insisted on payment in full and is now threatening legal action.
Please help these students. Help them fight for justice. They shouldn’t be burdened with heavy and unnecessary debt in these challenging times. Help them to recoup their hard-earned money from the UCHF. And help them have hefty, ongoing and unfair bills cancelled or massively reduced.
It may be legal for the UCHF to whack international students with eye-wateringly high charges in all circumstances. But it’s not fair or reasonable, is it? Not the sort of behaviour that Denmark prides itself on, is it?

for multiple case studies of students testifying to unfair and unethical charges at the hands of the UCHF.
