So- for those of you who may have seen the national press coverage of Ruby’s law I would like to take the opportunity to clarify my daughter was not ‘addicted ‘ to any form of social media. I feel it’s unfortunate I have to explain and add to my family’s anguish further but I have called for Ruby’s law because social media was a bad influence on her and has been on her younger sisters , that many parents relate to. So many youngsters endure anxiety, low self esteem, etc. for multiple reasons ;family break ups , issues with peers , or just the way they are, some kids are more sensitive than others - and therefore some are more able to cope than others. What they don’t need is social media to enable them ‘to cope’ be it through celebs , friends, false images, etc. I don’t need to go on because parents of this generation understand and it’s through no fault of them. But we are given no choice really because it’s the norm for them to have social media when we’d all prefer it wasn’t. We don’t need teenagers trying to look like love island contestants because ‘it’s cool’ as much as we don’t need them explaining their problems and life online thinking they are more mature than they are and having false friendships upon which nothing ‘real’ is based. I would like to thank everyone, every person that has signed so far and hope you see the genuine reason for Ruby’s law at grass roots level in day to day life. For those who think my daughter was some crazed addict that I had no control over, the press has informed you incorrectly. I hope to move this petition forward with the help of decent people with hopes and aspirations for our future generations . Shine bright Ruby �#rubyslaw
