Statistics Canada is proposing that banks and other businesses provide the agency with raw, non-anonymized personal and transaction itemized data.  There is no system in place for Statistics Canada to seek permission from individuals to have their data released, nor is there a system in place for the individuals to even be notified that their information is being released.  This is an egregious violation of each person's privacy and should not be permitted.  Any provision of client data from banks and other businesses to Statistics Canada (or any other third party) should be by specific written, opt-in permission only and should include the ability to revoke the permission as well.
