Make National BBQ Day an Official New Zealand Public Holiday

For too long New Zealanders have suffered in silence without an official celebration of the cornerstone to every Kiwi summer – the BBQ.
Here at Best Foods, we think this is pretty stink. What would Kiwi Christmas be without the sizzle of sausages and steaks - the gradual crescendo of our summer soundtrack?
So, we decided to create National BBQ Day as a sign of our love for the real MVP of our warm holiday season. Taking place on the first Sunday of every March, Best Foods National BBQ Day is a time to step back and reflect on what barbecues have given us in our lives – the great food, solid yarns with friends and family, and long summer evenings that seem to last forever.
But what if National BBQ Day was more than just an event to celebrate with our loved ones? United by a shared love of slightly burnt snags, buttered budget white bread and excessive condiments, we here at Best Foods believe New Zealand should recognise National BBQ Day as a brand new PUBLIC HOLIDAY.
Observed annually on the Monday following National BBQ Day, we believe it will be the Kiwi way to take it easy and really treasure the special things in life. After a day of BBQ celebrations, we need time to nurse our food babies and maybe fit in one last swim before the work week begins again.
But we need your help. People of New Zealand - slip on your jandals, slop on some sunscreen, slap on some juicy steaks, and wrap around those dirty dog sunnies and sign our petition. It’s time we let our voices be heard: please Jacinda, make our national union with the BBQ official. We bet Clarke whips up a sweet snapper fillet and crayfish on the barbie.
Let us observe National BBQ Day. One last hurrah before the sun sets on summer and we’re back to wet weather, soaked socks, sniffles and a whole two seasons without the sweet sizzle of assorted meat and veges on the family BBQ.
