The Government is currently conducting a public consultation on gun licensing following the horrific shooting of innocent bystanders by Jake Davison in Plymouth 2021 and the fatal shooting of John MacKinnon on the Isle of Skye in 2022.
The consultation looks at change to the legislation on firearm’s licensing, changes to the system of referees as well as changes in other areas of firearms licensing.
Whilst we acknowledge that the majority of license holders are law abiding citizens, there are still far too many occasions where licensed guns are used illegally or when gun licenses are granted when they should not be.
There is much that needs to be improved to ensure greater public safety.
It is time to respond to this consultation in order to help prevent the next avoidable shooting.
This is the opportunity for the public to voice their concerns surrounding this issue. To make sure your voice is heard, and licensing procedures are tightened for everyone’s safety
Inaction now will leave the way open for a dangerous loosening of the current legislation.
