We urge the UK government to take immediate action to protect households from the proposed excessive water bill increases. Under these changes, the average monthly water bill could rise to £51, a burden that is unacceptable, especially given the current circumstances.

Water companies, who have been responsible for polluting our waterways, are continuing to pay large dividends to shareholders and awarding millions in bonuses to their executives. Now, they are attempting to shift the costs of their own failings and regulatory fines onto consumers.

Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, and it is wrong for consumers to be penalized for the mismanagement of these companies.

We call on the government to impose a cap on water bill increases annually, limiting them to no more than the annual inflation rate. Water companies must not be allowed to pass the costs of fines imposed by Ofwat onto their customers.

It is time to hold water companies accountable and ensure that the public is not forced to bear the financial consequences of their failure.
