Prevent vets overcharging for out-of-hours services

Prevent vets overcharging for out-of-hours services
The Issue
On various occasions, I have had to take my pets for medical help on a Sunday afternoon. During these visits, I've been informed by young or locum veterinarians that they are present due to contractual obligations, not because they receive extra pay. As a responsible and loving pet owner, I always prioritize the health and well-being of my pets. However, it is disheartening to witness those in more challenging situations forced to let their pets suffer simply due to the exorbitant fees charged by veterinary practices.
Currently, veterinary clinics exploit our love and responsibility towards our pets by charging four times the normal rate for out-of-hours care. It is important to highlight that these inflated fees are not reflective of the actual wages received by veterinary staff during these hours. While recognizing the need for increased pay for unsociable hours, charging double would be fair to cover the additional costs removed by shifts that occur at night or during weekends.
Veterinary care should not become a financially draining endeavor simply because our animals require assistance outside of regular office hours. The quadrupled fees do not correlate with the actual expenses faced by clinics and seem to serve only as vessels for profiteering at the expense of families and their beloved pets.
This petition calls for a regulation ensuring that veterinary practices cannot charge astronomically high fees for unsociable hours, offering a cap that limits the cost to double the standard rate. This ensures fairness for both pet owners and veterinary staff, making emergency care more accessible to all.
Please sign this petition to ensure fair veterinary pricing that respects both pet owners and the professionals caring for our animals. Together, we can push for change and make veterinary services more just and equitable.
