Prevent Unjustified War Encouraged by Political Leadership

Prevent Unjustified War Encouraged by Political Leadership
The Issue
I am reaching out today as a concerned American citizen, one who has lived in peace with various nations around the world. Like many others, I value this peace and believe that it is human lives that suffer the most in the event of a war. What troubles me, and possibly you as well, is the potentiality of our country being led into unnecessary conflicts with Canada, Mexico, Greenland, Panama, South Africa, Pakistan or any other country.
According to a 2019 study by Cornell University, over 37% of war casualties globally in the last two decades were civilians – indicating the heavy human cost of warfare. Additionally, the Watson Institute of International and Public Affairs points out that war often has long-lasting effects on the economy of the nations involved, with a potential to set GDP back by up to 40%.
Proactively asserting our decision against such pointless conflicts, we must make our voices heard. We cannot sit idly by as decisions beyond our influence put our lives and the lives of our loved ones at risk. We have the right to dissent from any move towards war that is not born out of true necessity, but merely an act of unwarranted aggression.
Let's urge Congress to uphold the peace we have maintained with these countries. It's time to tell our leaders not to gamble with human lives. Thus, I call upon you to sign this petition and say no to unjust wars; together, we can safeguard our harmonious relations with other nations.
