Prevent Unilateral Changes to Grading System by Our Nursing School
The Issue

My journey as a single mother with three children attending nursing school has been far from easy, but it's a dream I'm pursuing to show my kids (and society) that we are capable of achieving anything we put our minds to. In our quest to excel, however, we have been presented with a seemingly insurmountable barrier. It appears that the administration of our school is making changes to our grading system without our input or consent, and these changes are negatively impacting our GPAs.
These arbitrary decisions compromise not only our grades but our integrity as well. It's as if the administrators have lost their human touch; it seems all about the money now, which is disheartening and indeed antithetical to the very principles of educational institutions, which should ideally be pillars of fairness, inclusivity, and democratic decision-making.
We aren't the only ones suffering. A National Student Nurses' Association (NSNA) study suggests that nursing students often feel academically stressed due to changes in educational policies they are not part of. Our case seems to hold true for this trend. Many of us are pursuing our nursing degree with great hope, passion, and a multitude of personal circumstances. The school's actions are threatening our dreams.
We need your signature to make our voice stronger as we request an open discussion around these changes involving all stakeholders - students, staff, and administration. We're not unreasonable. Monday, Sept 30th, 2024, we have a preliminary meeting with our Dean to start a dialogue for change and transparency. We aren't against changes; we only demand to be part of decision-making processes that fundamentally affect us. WE NEED ALL OF YOUR HELP and SIGNATURES. Please, sign this petition to help us protect our grades, dreams, and the hard-earned integrity of our education. Together, we can make a difference and demonstrate that education should never be only about money. Let us bring back the human touch to our nursing school.
We will be updating and posting our progress and welcome any advice or support you can give. Thank you!
