Prevent underage drug usage

The Issue

Growing up, my friends and I, as young teenagers, found ourselves entangled in substances like alcohol, marijuana, and nicotine. Initially seen as mere outlets for fun, these quickly became unhealthy crutches. Addictions took root and soon, some of my friends spiraled further into experimenting with harder drugs like Molly.

This personal journey was frightening, not just for me, but for the many young lives caught in this trap. Underage drug and substance abuse is a pressing issue that impacts countless families and communities around the world. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, early drug use increases a person’s chances of more serious addiction later in life. It's crucial that society takes steeper measures to prevent young people from falling into these habits.

One possible and actionable solution is to enhance educational programs that highlight the real dangers and consequences related to underage drug usage. Schools can incorporate comprehensive seminars that feature stories of recovery and the harsh realities of addiction. Engaging the student body in open discussions can cultivate a resilient support system that can warn against peer pressure and misinformation.

Additionally, the roles of parents, guardians, and community leaders cannot be overstated. We should empower these figures with resources and training to recognize early signs of substance misuse. Furthermore, local governments can implement stricter regulations on the sale of substances like alcohol and nicotine, ensuring that they do not land in the hands of adolescents.

I hope for this to alert and allow people and the government to become more strict on this issue.
