As an independent artist, I've seen firsthand how platforms like Tapas serve as vital lifelines for creators around the world. They are spaces where artists, writers, and creators can share their work with a global audience, build communities, and earn a living from their passions. But now, Tapas is under threat of being shut down and its vast compilation of unique and heartfelt stories fed into Kikau's AI systems, which would effectively erase years of dedicated artistic work from existence.

Tapas has long been a beacon for creatives. It's a platform where diverse narratives flourish, where niche stories find audiences, and where many creators, especially those from marginalized communities, have found their voices and their supporters. The closure of Tapas wouldn’t just be the loss of a platform; it would mean the obliteration of a cultural resource that nurtures creativity and diversity. Why would we let AI replace the authenticity and uniqueness that every artist brings to the table?

Data shows that over 50,000 creators have been actively publishing on Tapas, reaching millions of readers globally. Shutting it down would not only destroy the hopes and incomes of these independent artists but also deprive their audiences of fresh, innovative content. Art matters, stories matter, and platforms like Tapas are essential sanctuaries for those voices that often go unheard in mainstream media.

Some of the most iconic Tapas stories include Magical Boy, Unfamiliar, Heartstopper, Friends with Benefits, and Humor Me. Taking away Tapas means these comics will be erased.
