As an Eagle Scout and a stalwart believer in giving back to the community, upholding family values, preserving our natural environment, and fostering the principles of scouting, I am alarmed by the proposed sale of the Sandhill Scout Reservation by the Greater Tampa Bay Area Council.

The Sandhill Scout Reservation, located in Brooksville, FL, has been fundamental to scouting for decades, serving as a training ground for thousands of young scouts, including myself, to learn valuable life skills. The sale of this reservation would not only destroy a cherished camp but would also deeply shake our trust in institutions we hold dear, such as Scouting.

The Reservation is not just an asset to the Scouting community; it also plays a pivotal role in conserving Florida's biodiversity. Hosting a myriad of wildlife and over 20 distinct habitats, according to a scientific study by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Reservation helps maintain the fragile balance of our local ecosystem by safeguarding species and championing environmental education.

The Greater Tampa Bay Area Council must reconsider this decision which holds widespread consequences. It's not about a single Scout Reservation, but about preserving our values, the trust in our institutions, and our natural heritage.
