The Issue

Living in Sussex County was once an experience steeped in charm and tranquility. However, with the relentless wave of rezoning and construction, the essence of our beloved home is being eroded. Like many residents, I am overwhelmed by the mounting traffic congestion that now plagues our roads year-round. The allure of lower living costs has drawn many to settle here, but with them, a desire to reshape Sussex County into what resembles the places they left behind.

Our county cannot sustain this unrelenting growth. The infrastructure simply isn't equipped to handle it. Our roads are overrun, and our local healthcare resources are stretched beyond their limits. For instance, trying to see my primary doctor has become a near-impossible task, with appointments booked six months in advance. The reality is stark and unsustainable.

Rezoning Atlantic Field for further development, especially for a Costco, serves only to exacerbate these issues. Environmental impact studies show that overdevelopment can lead to increased pollution, loss of wildlife habitats, and a strain on local utilities. Moreover, economic assessments suggest that rapid growth without necessary infrastructure can lead to economic downturns, as quality of life diminishes.

It is crucial for the future of Sussex County that we pause. We must re-evaluate our long-term plans, considering not just the immediate financial gains of development, but the lasting impacts on our community's well-being and environment.

I implore officials to listen to the collective voice of the residents. We yearn for a return to the peaceful, manageable growth that once defined our county. By halting rezoning efforts and restricting further construction, we can preserve the character of our home for future generations.

Please lend your support by signing this petition. Together, we can champion a future where Sussex County remains a harmonious place to live, thriving on sustainable growth and shared community values. Our voices matter. Let them be heard.
