The Issue

In recent years, the United States has seen a troubling trend towards tightening restrictions on H1-B visas, which are crucial for attracting and retaining top foreign talent across a variety of industries. The H1-B visa program provides American companies with the ability to hire professionals with specialized skills, which are often in short supply in the domestic labor market. Restricting these visas further threatens the innovation and growth of American businesses, particularly in fields like technology, engineering, and healthcare, that depend heavily on this influx of skilled workers.

The economic contributions of H1-B visa holders are significant. According to the National Foundation for American Policy, companies employing H1-B visa workers are responsible for supporting thousands of jobs for Americans every year. Additionally, a study by the American Enterprise Institute found that every H1-B visa holder creates an additional 1.83 jobs for local workers. By limiting these visas, we risk stifling economic growth and innovation, harming the very industries that drive our economy forward.

Moreover, H1-B visa holders not only bring their expertise, but they also enrich the cultural fabric of our society. They contribute to diversity and bring fresh perspectives that lead to creative solutions and advancements. In a rapidly globalizing world, it is imperative that we maintain an open door policy that embraces talented individuals from around the globe, allowing them to contribute to and thrive alongside us.

Throughout my life, I have met several people with H1-B visas. I would consider many of them to be my friends. If H1-B visas were restricted or even revoked, I would lose these valuable connections I have made. By ensuring that the H1-B visas stay in place, these wonderful people could stay within our country and continue to provide valuable relationships and services.

We urge the United States government to recognize the importance and value of the H1-B visa program, and to halt any further restrictions that undermine its purpose. It is vital to ensure that the United States remains a competitive and innovative leader on the global stage. Please join us in supporting this cause by signing the petition.
