I am a resident of Lathrop, CA and like many others, I am deeply concerned about the proposed re-zoning of our agricultural land. Our community's peace and tranquility are under threat due to potential 24/7 industrial operations that can result in negative outcomes, including increased noise and bright lights, damage to local roads, contaminated runoff, air pollution, and heat spikes due to the increased amount of asphalt. More importantly, our environment is at risk. 

This can lead to consequences:

• Increased noise and bright lights due to 24/7 operations
• Damage to local roads due to increased traffic by over 700 semi-trucks with no traffic lights (potholes, hazards on the road, safety conditions for drivers)
• Contaminated runoff into our local water supply and crops (diesel, semi-truck oils and fluids)
• Air pollution from emissions
• Heat spikes due to increased amount of asphalt(can absorb and retain over 90% of heat)

The re-zoning could lead to water contamination which would not only affect us but also the surrounding wildlife that depends on these resources for survival. According to a study by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), improper land use can lead to an increase in pollutants in our water systems which can have severe health implications.

Furthermore, agriculture plays a significant role in absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere - a key factor in combating climate change. The American Farmland Trust reports that an acre of farmland can absorb up to 3 tons of carbon dioxide per year.

We must protect what we have left for future generations and maintain the balance between development and environmental conservation. We urge you to stand with us against this proposal for re-zoning agricultural land into commercial or industrial use.
