Prevent the Murder of Children: Ban Impulse Sales of Bulletproof Vests

Prevent the Murder of Children: Ban Impulse Sales of Bulletproof Vests
Why this petition matters

We can honor the Second Amendment and protect the lives of children, teens, and other innocent bystanders so that they don’t become victims of public shootings by banning impulse purchases of bulletproof vests.
We can do this by asking Congress to pass a federal ‘30-Day Cool-Off Law’ post-purchase of bulletproof vests.
Perpetrators of mass shootings copycat each other's tactics to murder a maximum amount of people, and one of the ways they imitate each other is in the wearing of bulletproof vests. Why? Because this one tool can both enhance their confidence and add enough time to protect themselves while they put dozens of holes in hearts, lungs, and spines. And since there are zero restrictions around the purchase of this gear in a majority of states, this means we are making it easy for perpetrators who are bent on acting on violent impulses to do so with ease.
We are three mothers who can wait no longer for experts and politicians to stop mass murders. Our society has had over 20 years to act since Columbine. As moms, we know that anger is a normal part of the human experience, but some of us are better than others at curbing our impulses. We need to help people make better decisions with a 30-day nudge to curb violent impulsivity before one more person puts on a bulletproof vest that doesn't know how to give their inner hostility a timeout. And let’s not kid ourselves: when a civilian puts on body armor, they’re in a mood to shoot. Hunters do not wear bulletproof vests because deer do not pack heat. So, unless you are a journalist, police officer, or military, there is no reason you should be able to acquire a bulletproof vest on the same day.
