A 300 to 400 pound adult bear entering people’s homes is far from “harmless” and presents a real public safety risk. They are not just hungry and curious. We have 500 bears living in the Lake Tahoe Basin and 99% of those bears to do not behave this way.
These particular bears have become dependent on human food sources and are becoming increasingly bold and brazen in their attempts to get it. Sadly, we see this situation play out repeatedly once bears become accustomed to human sources of food. These bears are causing tens of thousands of dollars of property damage and it’s a matter of time before somebody gets in their way and gets hurt, unfortunately.
