Prevent the Introduction of Resident and Pay & Display Parking in SE16

The Issue

We're residents who have lived in the SE16 area for over three decades. Throughout this time, parking has never been an issue, with plenty of available spaces. We also live at the nearest free parking spot for the Millwall stadium. This does not bring any inconvenience to us, and we remain content with our current situation.

We have noticed parking bays and signs popping up in the area, with no notification. Please sign if you are a resident, friend, family or visitor and do not wish to change the current parking situation.

The council's plans to implement resident and pay & display bays in our longstanding neighborhood doesn't seem to stem from a need for better parking management, but rather, appear to be a money-making scheme. An effort to extract more financial output from us and our guests, despite the current satisfactory state of parking in our area.

The council's approach seems to disregard the fact that parking should not be a barrier to visiting or living in SE16 area, but rather a facilitative aspect to contribute to the smooth running of daily life. Their proposed plans, which involve monetizing something that is currently free and adequately working, is troubling at least and exploitative at best.

The cost of implementing these new parking measures is another cause for concern. While the council might profit, it's the residents who will bear the cost, and this doesn't sit well with us. We believe that the interests of residents should be prioritized over the profit-oriented motives of the council.

We cannot sit back and watch our pocket-friendly and efficient parking system be overhauled and monetized by council plans that do not align with our communal interests. It's time for us to take a stand and voice our discontent. Please sign this petition to tell the council that we reject their proposed resident and pay & display parking in SE16.

DID YOU KNOW?

Permits won't: •Prevent youngsters from parking and smoking in their vehicles, as they are still in the vehicle. •It will not stop thefts, as parking permitted streets still get thefts. (Faraday boxes are advised). •It won't help with parking when Millwall are playing, as they play outside the hours.

Permits will: •Cost you £100-£200 per year for parking each vehicle at your home (depending on size). •Cost you/ your guests ££'s to visit you per hour. •Be a money making scheme, it won't help us, it will only make us poorer.
