Prevent the Influx of 950 People into Annamoe, a Small Village
The Issue
As a resident of Annamoe, County Wicklow, Ireland, I am deeply concerned about the sudden decision to bring 950 people into our small village. Our population is only 200 and we lack the necessary facilities to accommodate such an increase. We have limited transport options and no shops. Furthermore, we, as a community, do not want to be associated with the unfair housing of refugees in substandard conditions in a small countryside village ill equipped for the deployment. Our concerns arise on humanitarian grounds, for the well-being of these individuals, over and above the profiteering of operators.
In addition, this decision was made without any consultation or warning to us residents and we were told it was non-negotiable.
This situation is particularly frustrating as local residents are often denied planning permission for new houses due to concerns about increased traffic. Yet now, without any discussion or consideration for our community's capacity or infrastructure, this massive influx has been decided upon.
Our village simply cannot support an almost fivefold increase in population overnight. It will strain our already limited resources and disrupt our quiet way of life. We need proper consultation and planning before such drastic changes are implemented.
We urge those in power to reconsider this decision and engage with us in meaningful dialogue about how best to accommodate newcomers while preserving the character of Annamoe. Please sign this petition if you believe in fair treatment for small communities like ours.
