Prevent the Impending Ban of TikTok in the USA

Prevent the Impending Ban of TikTok in the USA
The Issue
TikTok has turned into a vital source of connection and support for individuals who, like myself, live with multiple disabilities. The platform has allowed me to meet wonderful creators and individuals, express myself authentically, and forge networks of support for my daily challenges. Most significantly, it was through TikTok that I discovered my condition of AuDHD (Autism and ADHD) and took the steps to get assessed. Like many others, I found solace and information, which immensely contributed to my wellbeing.
However, there will be a national ban on TikTok, scheduled for January 19, 2025, in the United States of America. A move that could sever essential bonds and stifle the vibrant exchange of ideas. According to a Pew Research study, as of 2021, 21% of U.S. adults use TikTok, with usage particularly high among young adults (Pew Research Center, 2021). For many of these individuals, especially those of us living with disabilities, TikTok has been a lifeline.
This ban would not only supress our freedom of expression but also possibly jeopardise the mental health of millions who rely on TikTok for social support and education. The human right to freedom of expression and the right to information are both recognised by international law (United Nations, 1948).
Therefore, I request those responsible to reconsider and stop this ban. Allow individuals to maintain this platform that supports and encourages open expression and has become an integral part of our lives. Do not create a barrier where there was once a bridge.
