It's only been two days, but we're at nearly 2000 residents fighting to be heard about the harm this statue as designed will cause to our region.
The intention is to send this petition directly to the Downtown Medford Association, and they will be notified as the signatures continue to increase. With the Medford City Council making their decision to rescind an offer of funding official on January 20th, it is crucial that we continue to spread the petition to as many residents as possible.
Again, let's recall: This is not about the artist or his creativity. This is about the lack of grief literacy and compassion demonstrated with this specific design being placed in our city.
This is not a piece commissioned by our city government, which means they are not in a position to prevent it from being installed. However, I believe with enough pressure, our Downtown Medford Association and the artist will recognize the pain already created by this conversation and choose the better way forward.
