The Issue

As dedicated students of the Rio Rancho Fine Arts Program, our participation in the Band program has been transformative. It shapes our high school experience, fosters community, and ignites our passion for music. Yet, this cornerstone of our development is under threat. Our respected and cherished instructors, Mr. C and Mr. Austell, face unwarranted dismissal. Their potential removal not only jeopardizes our learning but also the cultural fabric and integrity of our school's celebrated music education.

Mr. C and Mr. Austell are more than educators; they are mentors who inspire academic and personal growth. They cultivate a spirit of excellence and inclusivity, ensuring each student feels valued and encouraged to excel. Under their leadership, the Rio Rancho Bands have received countless accolades, highlighting both their professional aptitude and their unwavering dedication. Statistics show our school's music program consistently achieves superior ratings and serves critical roles during community events, reflecting their significant impact.

Removing such key figures would result in a detrimental impact on the program, causing a decline in student participation and performance levels. Music education plays an essential role in cognitive and social development, and removing those who spearhead this cause recklessly undermines these benefits. Furthermore, their absence might discourage future enrollment in the Band program, leading to its eventual decline, diminishing opportunities for future generations.

Our decision to stand in solidarity reflects our commitment to safeguarding quality education. We urge the school administration and community leaders to reconsider this decision. Preserving Mr. C and Mr. Austell's roles will ensure the continuity of exceptional music education they provide. Let's champion for a resolution that secures the future of our rich musical tradition.

Please sign this petition to voice your support for Mr. C and Mr. Austell. Help us protect our music program and enrich the lives of all students at Rio Rancho High School. Us students will not participate without them.
