Prevent the Demolition of bristow park Handball Courts in Commerce, CA
The Issue
Like many of you, I have fond childhood memories of visiting our local park in Commerce, California. This was where I would eagerly participate in Tony Huanetes' handball tournaments, reveling in the camaraderie and competitive spirit of our community. I still remember the joy from the vibrancy of the Cinco de Mayo festival that filled the park each year.
Today, these handball courts, the heart of our community and the repository of many shared memories, are under threat. The city is planning to demolish the courts, a move that would strip us of the place where so many of us learned the values of teamwork, perseverance, and community.
Not only do these courts hold sentimental value, but they also serve a crucial function. In Commerce, a city where 18.1% of residents live below the poverty line (as reported by the Census Bureau), these free-access handball courts provide a low-cost recreational opportunity for our residents.
To preserve our shared history, community spirit, and recreational amenities, we need your support in urging the city’s decision-makers to halt the demolition plans. By doing so, we can ensure that future generations can also create beautiful memories on these courts, just as we did. Please, sign and share this petition to save our local handball courts.
DONT LET THEM TAKE OUR RECREATION
