Prevent the Construction of the Proposed Power Plant and Data Centers in Chatham, VA

Prevent the Construction of the Proposed Power Plant and Data Centers in Chatham, VA
The Issue
**NO DONATION IS REQUIRED TO SIGN THIS PETITION**
This petition signed by the citizens of Pittsylvania County and neighboring communities serves to oppose the proposed first phase of the Balico Power Plant and Data Center projects in the Chatham, Virginia area.
The project would span roughly 760 acres of land, including a 3500 megawatt powerplant and 12 data centers.
Our community is our home, our sanctuary, and our life. Today, the serenity of our community is at grave risk. The proposed construction of a power plant and data centers threatens not only our environment, but also our health and our way of life.
• The site plans indicate the future construction of a gas-burning power plant, which at 3500 megawatts would be the largest power plant in the state of Virginia, with multiple 187-foot-tall polluting stacks.
• Balico estimates the 12 data centers in Phase 1 would require 2 millions gallons of water per day.
• Per Balico, LLC, "This is the first phase, and ultimately we will continue." This puts at risk 2,233 acres spread across Chalk Level, Sheva, Whittles, and Mill Creek.
• Each of the 12 proposed data center buildings will be 220-feet wide, 900-feet long, and 40-feet tall. That totals
4.7 million square feet, and if placed end-to-end would create a building 220-feet wide and almost 2 miles long.
The U.S. National Library of Medicine shares wide consensus among scientific studies that emissions from power plants significantly contribute to air pollution which can lead to health issues including chronic bronchitis, asthma, cardiovascular diseases, hospitalizations & death.
The data centers, also raise huge concerns. Data centers consume an enormous amount of water daily to cool the computer equipment. They also contribute to air and noise pollution, deforestation, and loss of farmland and wildlife habitat.
Now more than ever, we need your voices to amplify our cry for our home. Sign this petition and help us prevent the construction of this power plant and data center complex in our community.
