Prevent the Construction of a Bus Depot on 47th Ave NE Naples

The Issue

The proposed bus station on 47th Ave NE Naples is a matter of serious concern for our community.  Each phase will have parking for approximately 100 school buses, driver and maintenance employee parking, and a maintenance facility for school buses.  This project would significantly disrupt the daily life of residents and have lasting, negative environmental impacts. The station's construction would create significant traffic congestion on Immokalee Road, especially during peak commuting hours as the road is single-lane.

We, the undersigned residents of 47th street and our community in Naples are deeply concerned about the significant disruptions and negative impacts caused by ongoing construction work on our residential street, which is causing considerable inconvenience and detriment to our quality of life.

Reasons for our petition:

The construction activities, including heavy machinery and frequent deliveries, are generating excessive noise during unreasonable hours, disturbing our peace and sleep.

Traffic congestion and hazards:

The narrowed road due to construction creates significant traffic congestion, making it difficult to access our homes and posing safety risks for pedestrians and drivers.

According to a National Cooperative Highway Research Program report, transit stations can generate up to 3,500 daily vehicle trips, exacerbating existing traffic conditions.

Noise pollution is another concern; the World Health Organization states that exposure to noise levels above 55 decibels can lead to stress-related health issues. The bus station will introduce unwanted noise to our otherwise peaceful neighborhood, jeopardizing community health and well-being. Additionally, bus exhaust releases harmful pollutants into the atmosphere, contributing to air quality degradation, and climate change.

Finally, studies consistently show that proximity to transit stations can adversely affect property values due to increased noise and traffic. Our homes, our greatest investments, will instantly lose value.
It will not be safe for our children to play and ride their bikes on the street.

We must consider the future of our community, prioritize its inhabitants and ensure that our environment is not negatively impacted by unnecessary construction. We urge everyone to join us in this crucial fight to protect our neighborhood. Please sign this petition to stop the construction of the new bus depot on 47th Ave NE Naples.
