Prevent the Closure of St. Dominic’s Catholic Primary School

The Issue

In response to falling enrolment across the borough, Hackney Council has made an initial proposal to close down St. Dominic’s Catholic Primary School in September 2025.
For over 150 years, St. Dominic’s Catholic Primary School has been at the heart of our community in the parish of The Immaculate Heart of Mary & St Dominic, in Hackney, London. It has proudly served as a safe haven, a hub of enjoyment, learning and spiritual nurture for children of many generations of Catholic, Christian and non-faith families. Today, we find our beloved school threatened with closure, a move that threatens to break apart a community and a tradition that has stood the test of time.
This closure directly impacts a substantial portion of East London population who are invested in faith-based schooling. The closure of our cherished school is bigger than just us.

Local residents deserve to have a school they can easily walk to, one that has a strong academic record, that offers the closeness and individual attention of a one-form entry environment.

We are asking the Hackney Council Cabinet to remove St. Dominic’s Catholic Primary School from the potential closure list, thereby ensuring security and stability for staff, pupils and parents.

Let us stand together to save St. Dominic's. Our school's history is entwined with the social fabric of our community, and its closure would rip apart a legacy that stretches back through countless generations. Let us ensure it stands, nurturing and teaching, for generations still to come. Please sign our petition and lend your voice to help keep St. Dominic's Catholic Primary school open.
