Prevent the closure of Purbeck Connect day centre in Wareham

Prevent the closure of Purbeck Connect day centre in Wareham
The Issue
For more than two decades, Purbeck Connect has been a lifeline for adults with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health challenges in Wareham, Dorset. It stands as a beacon of hope and community, offering these individuals a safe and supportive environment where they can learn, socialize, and flourish. Many of those who rely on the centre view it as a second home, where they are understood, accepted, and nurtured.
We were led to believe by Dorset Council that we would be remaining open and becoming a Hub.
Sadly, adult services in Dorset now have proposed a plan to shut down Purbeck Connect on Sandford Lane, threatening to disrupt the lives of individuals who have come to depend on it. This decision is devastating, not only for the clients but also for their families and caregivers who have seen first-hand the positive impact the centre has on their loved ones' lives.
The closure would mean stripping away one of the few accessible resources for vulnerable adults in Wareham, leaving them without a crucial support system they have trusted for years. Such a move would not only disregard the vital role Purbeck Connect plays in the community but also undermine the rights of those who deserve a secure place to belong and thrive.
We believe that every individual, regardless of their challenges, deserves a place to grow and participate in the larger community. Shutting down this centre would deny them the opportunity to engage and learn in an inclusive environment designed specifically to meet their needs.
We are urging Dorset County Council and all relevant authorities to reconsider this decision and find alternative solutions that do not involve closing the doors of Purbeck Connect.
By signing this petition, you are standing with us to protect and preserve this essential community asset, ensuring that it remains a steadfast pillar of support for those who need it most. Please join us in our cause to save Purbeck Connect from closure.
