Prevent the closure of Pig Path Road in East Cumberland County
The Issue
For many of us living in the Westel and Ozone communities of East Cumberland County, Tennessee, Pig Path Road is more than just a path—it's a lifeline. This road is a crucial route for daily commuters, school buses, and local residents accessing essential services. It offers the most direct access to Interstate 40 for our communities, facilitating an easy and straightforward commute. Closing Pig Path Road would dramatically impact our daily lives, forcing us to add several miles to our travels each day.
Imagine the inconvenience and added stress for school buses and everyday drivers having to take these extended routes. For many parents, this could mean reshuffling their morning schedules drastically, leading to earlier wake-up times for children, longer rides, and increased costs in fuel and vehicle maintenance. Emergency services would also face longer response times, threatening the safety and well-being of our community members.
The proposal to close Pig Path Road seems to stem from concerns about traffic through Flat Rock Motorsports Park. However, before closing one of our most crucial roads, we urge decision-makers to consider alternative solutions. Could traffic mitigation measures be implemented instead, such as speed calming devices or designated crossing signals? Perhaps enhanced signage or part-time road closures around major events could also serve as viable options.
We believe that a collaborative approach, one that respects both the needs of our community and the operational requirements of Flat Rock Motorsports Park, is possible. In doing so, we preserve our cherished way of life while potentially introducing practical, innovative solutions that serve everyone involved.
Our communities depend on Pig Path Road, and we need your help to keep it open. Please sign this petition to show your support for maintaining the accessibility and convenience of Pig Path Road for all residents, visitors, and stakeholders. By signing, you are standing with us to protect our community’s vital infrastructure and ensuring that our voices are heard.
