Prevent the Closure of Forest Avenue Elementary School

The Issue

As an alumni of West Babylon and a mother of two students attending Forest Avenue Elementary, the thought of our beloved school closing its doors is inconceivable. This iconic elementary school, which has served our community since the 1960s, extends beyond a place for academic learning. For many, Forest has held generations within families.  Forest Avenue is a family—comprised of dedicated students, devoted parents, passionate teachers, and diligent staff.

Forest Avenue is more than just a school, it's a vital part of our local community. Our Forest community comes together to enrich every student that passes through its doors, strengthening their knowledge, character, and aspiration. However, the recent announcements regarding the possible closure of this heartening institution has sent waves of distress, jeopardizing the familial bond that exists among us.

Therefore, it's crucial that we step up our efforts to raise awareness about what Forest Avenue means to us. This is not just another school - it has offered years of invaluable service and brought our community closer. But this rich school history may face an abrupt end if we don't take action today.

We are urging the West Babylon School Board to comprehensively review their potential decision about closing Forest Avenue Elementary School. We believe that a community's strength lies in its unity and willingness to stand up for its members. As part of this community, we hope that our collective voice will emphasize the profound impacts this school has not only on the students but on the entire West Babylon community.

Stand with us. Please, let us show the West Babylon School Board and West Babylon School District that Forest Avenue is an indispensable part of our lives that deserves to remain intact. Let's be the voice of our community and our children. Sign this petition and help keep Forest Avenue Elementary School open.

I am aware of the petition and have responded directly to resident inquiries since this process started. I understand and can relate to the community concern associated with the current findings of the committee charged with researching the feasibility of district consolidation. Like many residents, I have strong ties to Forest Avenue and do not take any potential decisions lightly regarding educating the children of this community. To be clear, the board has not made a decision, and the only information we have been given is what has been posted publicly. The Board of Education is scheduled to review the full findings of the committee on January 14. The board and the community as a whole face monumental decisions ahead that will impact the future of education in West Babylon. Thank you, Christopher
