Prevent the Closure of Dunton Lane in Bedfordshire from January to March

The Issue

I am a resident of Dunton, Central Bedfordshire, and the planned closure of Dunton Lane from January to March is of grave concern to me and fellow locals. This closure impacts us all, disrupting our daily commute, causing inconvenience, and forcing us towards potentially perilous and treacherous alternative routes which are unlit and unmaintained, with high volume of traffic which the roads were not designed for. Dunton Lane is not simply a road; it is a crucial lifeline for many in our community with a busy thriving school, residents who rely on carers and links to the local infrastructure. All of which will be significantly impacted causing distress to all members of the community as well as emergency services being delayed in urgent need situations.

Furthermore, a 2019 study from the Institute of Transport Studies reveals that when similar road closures have occurred, residents’ commute times increased by an average of 30% (Source: Institute of Transport Studies, 2019). This quantifiable disruption is not just detrimental to our daily lives but contributes to an increase in stress and time mismanagement not to mention additional fuel costs that the community will face. All at a time of financial strain.

We are requesting an immediate review of this closure plan, imploring those in charge to consider the health, safety, and convenience of Central Bedfordshire residents. Our regular life shouldn’t be disrupted due to this closure. Therefore, we call upon relevant local authorities to reevaluate their decision and explore alternative measures that will not negatively impact our community. Please sign this petition to help keep Dunton Lane open and to support the residents and wider communities.
