The Issue

As a tightly-knit community with deep-rooted connections to Del Obispo Elementary School, we are deeply distressed by Capistrano Unified School District's (CUSD) plans to close our beloved institution. Enclosing not only a school but a family, Del Obispo's potential closure is robbing us of a cherished institution entrenched in 50 years of hard work, dedication, and invaluable memories. This school is not only an institution for learning but a haven for students, parents, and teachers who consider it their home.

Del Obispo is a cornerstone of our neighborhood. Its proximity allows countless students to walk to school daily, a convenience that supports many working parents in our community. A closure will unnervingly disrupt our children's routines, potentially impacting both their mental health and academic progress. We boast a strong PTA and committed teachers, both dedicated to fostering an active and engaging learning environment. Our school stands tall as a beacon of hope, especially for our underprivileged members, obtaining vital Title 1 status that provides integral resources to aid in academic achievement and close achievement gaps.

This abrupt closure will jeopardize our school's role as an essential support system for our low-income families. We, as a community of students, parents, and teachers, refuse to let our beloved school be stripped away from us without a fight. It is time to band together and protect not just a school but our home and our family. Sign the petition. Ensure that CUSD hears our voices clamoring for the continuity of Del Obispo Elementary School!
