As a parent, I watch my children thrive in the nurturing environment provided by Burnt Chimney Elementary School. It is with great concern that I write this petition, as our beloved school faces closure due to a $3.7 million reduction in state funding for Franklin County Public Schools in the 2024-2025 school year.

The potential closure of Burnt Chimney Elementary is not just about bricks and mortar; it's about our community, our children's education and their future. The school board is also considering combining elementary and secondary bus routes, reducing personnel numbers, and eliminating non-required programs - all measures that would significantly impact the quality of education for our children.

This locale relies on this institution to educate its young minds. Closing it would mean uprooting students from an environment they are familiar with and forcing them into unfamiliar territory which could negatively affect their academic performance.

We understand that budget cuts are necessary but believe there must be other solutions than closing a vital part of our community. We urge Franklin County Public Schools to explore all possible alternatives before making such a drastic decision.
